A
wedding day celebrates one of the most important decisions that a
couple can make and in choosing to be married in the Church they
make important statements about themselves and about their
relationship. Christians believe that marriage is a gift from God,
a means of His grace, a sacrament: in choosing to be married in the
Church the couple are entering into a Christian marriage and they
ask God to be part of that marriage. Moreover, in this sacrament
they make a commitment that lasts the whole of their life. “It is a
way of life that all should reverence and none should lightly
undertake.” (BAS p.529). The wedding day is only the beginning of
a lifetime committed to one another. This will take them through
good times and bad, through sickness and health, through wealth and
poverty. The promises that they make to one another may not always
be easy to keep. To help the couple prepare for this commitment and
to give the tools for a lasting relationship the Diocese of Quebec
requires that all couples seeking marriage in our church attend a
marriage preparation program. WHAT WE REQUIRE FROM YOU
- You should contact the incumbent, the Rev’d Fr James Quirk, to arrange an initial meeting. We usually require six months notice, especially in cases when one of you has been married before because of the preparatory process that this requires.
- It is a requirement that one of you has received the Sacrament of Baptism in a Christian Church.
- As mentioned above, all couples must attend a marriage preparation course.
